The GTN hosts its 400th tutorial: Building an amplicon sequence variant (ASV) table from 16S data using DADA2

The investigation of environmental microbial communities and microbiomes has been revolutionized by the development of high-throughput amplicon sequencing. In amplicon sequencing a particular genetic locus, for example the 16S rRNA gene (or a part of it) in bacteria, is amplified from DNA extracted from the community of interest, and then sequenced on a next-generation sequencing platform. This technique removes the need to culture microbes in order to detect their presence, and cost-effectively provides a deep census of a microbial community.

This new Galaxy training explores 16S amplicon data processing using DADA2 and exploration using Phyloseq.

4th Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex NGS made easy

8 July 2024   NGS Tuberculosis Drug-resistance transmission evolution one-health

Tuberculosis (TB) is a big killer in many countries of the world, particularly in those with low and middle income. Next-generation sequencing has been key in improving our understanding of drug resistance acquisition and of transmission of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Yet, the need for expertise guiding NGS implementation in laboratories and the lack of bioinformatic expertise, are main obstacles hindering the implementation of NGS into TB programs.

GTN Video Library 2.0: 107 hours of learning across 154 videos

14 June 2024   gtn

Many GTN tutorials already have recordings. These recordings were made by members of the community for a variety of (online) training events. Up until now, this video library were part of the Gallantries Project. We have now integrated this video library directly into the GTN, and made it even easier to add video recordings to GTN tutorials or slide decks! Just use a Google Form to submit your video recordings!
