A Galaxy Introduction for Everyone
Virtual course
The purpose of this workshop is to get to know Galaxy, and the Galaxy Training Network.
Researchers who want to follow good scientific practice and research data management are often confronted with high software costs, a lack of programming skills, and limited computing resources. One solution to address all these problems is Galaxy, an open source data analysis platform, supporting researchers from diverse domains, including the Humanities.
Galaxy enables the automated documentation and execution of scientific analyses and workflows, allowing users to share (partial) results of both the analysis and workflow with just a few clicks. Workflows are easily adaptable and can be repeated with different parameters, facilitating FAIR research data management. The Galaxy Training Network, with over 400 tutorials, also offers open educational resources that can be used for both independent learning and teaching. Thanks to its modular design, Galaxy offers broad application potential across various disciplines and supports easier Research Data Management. All this from within the browser.
Learning Outcome
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Perform a complete analysis workflow in Galaxy, from data upload to results interpretation.
- Explain how Galaxy supports good Research Data Management (RDM) practices, and apply these principles in their own analyses.
- Understanding the Galaxy training network Create and publish FAIR-compliant learning materials.

Get set up for the course!
Follow the steps below to get set up with everything you need to participate in the course!
Create a Galaxy Account
Create an account on one of the following Galaxy servers:
You will get an email with activation link. It may end up in your junk folder.
Note: If you already have a Galaxy account you can skip this step and just log in to your existing account.
Join Galaxy Training Group (TIaaS)
Join TIaaS by clicking on the link below matching your Galaxy server:
- Galaxy EU is not using TIaaS
This will give your analysis jobs priority on Galaxy for the duration of the event. Make sure you are logged in before clicking the link. You should see a green message box if all went well.

Request TIaaS
Training Infrastructure as a Service (TIaaS) is a service that allows you to request space for your course on a server, it helps ensure courses run smoothly by separating your trainee's jobs into a separate queue. Learn more about TIaaS in our tutorial.
The following links will open a (mostly) pre-filled out TIaaS form,
Once you receive a URL from the admins, please set it as a tiaas_link in your event metadata.
